Lincoln was a Republican

This is a random blog to remind everyone that Lincoln was a Republican, it is Republicans that freed the slaves.

So what?

It seems that left-leaning individuals are quick to dismiss the Republican Party’s emphasis on controllign the influx of undocumented workers as racist. This is convenient in arguments with the ill-informed but simply doesn’t fly with me.

We all know the economic implications of undocumented workers that do not put money into the economy but do take out in the form of services. I feel no need to rehash this argument. It is important that I appeal to the compassion of the Left.  Undocumented workers are subject to exploitation by their employers and their illegal status makes them hesitant to report serious crimes for fear of deportation. Two out of Three undocumented workers will work making below the minimum wage.  These individuals are NOT pursuing the American Dream they are subject to a daily hell of toiling in menial jobs.  Providing a path to citizenship is NOT a magic wand which will erase the hardships these individuals face.

We don’t need to  close our boarders however we do need to control them.The most responsible and humane thing to do is control the undocumented population, deport those on expired visas or here without visas. If we keep better tabs on the immigrants coming into our nation we can assess our needs and create a need-based immigration system which allows visas to be issued to unskilled laborers. Penalties for employers circumventing this system must be stiff  once we  establish an employer verification system which relies on biometrics such as fingerprints to confirm the status of an applicant.

This is not a racist view which asserts one race is better than another but only a humane perspective on the problem of illegal immigration not only for the us but also for the undocumented workers themselves.
